Royal Ashdown Forest
Ranked no.46 in England’s Top 100 courses
Originally laid out in 1892, alterations were made in 1897 by Jack Rowe, who also made the last significant changes in 1922. We trust Jack knew what he was doing - he was the professional there for 55 years!
The club gained its royal title in 1893 stipulating that no man-made intrusions be allowed. Hence there are no bunkers & is a course that can truly claim to have been designed by nature. It’s heather, humps, hollows & streams make it a superb place to play golf. Our Nearest the Pin hole, the 11th, plays from an elevated tee & affords stunning views across East & West Sussex & the North Downs of Surrey & Kent.
Chosen by the R&A to be an Open Championship Regional Qualifying course, it has a superb range of practice facilities to include a driving range, pitching area, practice nets & putting green. All are conveniently adjacent to the clubhouse. Like most top clubs, visitors playing restrictions at RAF are strictly controlled. By playing on a Monday, this allows us to play in threeballs & fourballs.
The venue is a perfect venue for winter golf - its Victorian clubhouse is a cosy haven in which to eat & drink. Whilst enjoying the magic scenery, you might just espy the most famous resident of this Royal Forest, Winnie the Pooh!
